Signs and Symptoms of Depression

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION.

Have you ever asked yourself this question "am I depressed or am I just always sad? '' or wonder if a loved one is struggling with depression if so you might want to keep reading to find out some major signs of depression. Being sad is very different from depression even though most people still confuse the two, it is important for us to realize that knowing what we feel is depression is the most important step in finding help.

 

DEPRESSION SIGNS

1. Feelings of hopelessness. This is a major and very common sign among people with depression. People with depression usually concentrate on their pains, problems and past mistakes, when you are depressed your problems seem overwhelming and permanent and not temporary unlike sadness. Most people have periods of regret and guilt but when you just can't see the light beyond the dark tunnel then you might be experiencing depression.                                     
2. Changes in appetite and weight. An unintentional change in appetite and weight could be a sign of clinical depression, this could be weight gain or weight loss which is determined by the kind of person affected, some people will lose their appetite while others will eat anything to make up for their feelings of emptiness 
3. Mood swings. One minute you are very angry and the next you are crying uncontrollably, unable to control your emotions and people can't understand the sudden change of emotion, if this is your experience you might be experiencing depression.
4. Loss of interest. Maybe you once enjoyed some activities that give you joy and pleasure but then those things don't seem to matter to you anymore and you just don't care about them then you could be experiencing depression.
5. Self loathing. If you always feel worthless and guilty thinking you are a burden to others or maybe you think you are a perfectionist by always criticizing yourself for mistakes then it is a sign of depression.
6. Suicide. If you are experiencing depression suicide might seem like your only way out but that is not the reality of depression it's just a symptom of an illness and you should seek for help immediately.

If you are experiencing most of these symptoms then most likely you are experiencing depression and you should seek medical help. If you discovered anything then congratulations! You have just taken the most important step on your way to recovery and most importantly these signs are just symptoms of an illness and you could recover from them so don't just think you are a weirdo with funny feelings.
